We are a USAC sanctioned race but you cannot earn upgrade points for your license in a Fondo style race. This event is chip timed and we're keeping score!
Currently none BUT we are working on a significant cash purse for the winners of each event. Our biggest goal is to provide the best EXPERIENCE on the road-paved and gravel-that a cyclist can have for the LOWEST possible entry fee. We are working on some sponsorship dollars and if everything goes to plan, we're gonna infuse that right back in to your race weekend.
These are the mountains in the summer so there's always the chance BUT this is usually the driest month of the year. But we are going RAIN or SHINE.
Instantly, we use chip timing and we will not be asking you to stick or pin anything on your expensive cycling clothing or helmet, just a sticker around your seatpost.
No you don't. The Saturday events finish at Upper Karr Canyon which is about a 15 minute downhill ride back into town. BUT, if you absolutely, positively, can't stomach the thought of riding even one more meter, we can get you a ride back into town.
The Sunday events are a bit more complicated which is why we would like everyone to ride down to High Rolls from Cloudcroft in our escorted peloton at 0830 prior to the race start. However, there is ample parking at the elementary school in High Rolls and the Senior Center in High Rolls if you wish to ride your bike down AFTER you finish your ride.
While you can ride a tri bike in our event, you are not allowed to be in the aerobars while in the group. Forgive me, but bike handling isn't the forte of triathletes and taking your hands off the brakes while in a group is dangerous. Tandem bikes are welcome but we won't have a separate category for these racers. At least not this year.
If you wear earphones that do not go in your ears, listen to whatever you want. If you insist on riding with something that goes in your ear and distorts your hearing to your surroundings, you will only be allowed to have one ear in and we will go hard on this one.
Absolutely the fork NOT. These are narrow, windy roads with little to no shoulder. There is no room NOR NEED for personal SAGs. Any personal SAG vehicle spotted on NM 130 or the Sunspot Highway will lead to the immediate disqualification of said rider and you will not be welcomed back. We will have a table set up at the second aid station for riders to send a bottle out with our volunteers but you will still have to stop and grab it!!!
Family and friends are welcome at the finish at Upper Karr Canyon where there is ample parking but they need to leave Cloudcroft by 1115 to avoid driving through the race!
We support anything that gets people out on the bike. That being said, this is a RACE and your ebike is forking up the rotation so if you are on an ebike, you must disclose this at packet pickup so we can make other racers aware. Ebikes are not eligible to win and/or any prizes.
